About

Welcome to Wendistry…  revealing unusual, beautiful, meaningful art to the emerging art enthusiast.  I want what you want… to know the “why” behind the works, to uncover under-the-radar discoveries, and to gain exposure to new artists.  Mostly, I want to share how to appreciate art by getting inside the mind of artists in the Dallas art scene.

Art is based on a truth.  It stands out from the crowd playing on your mind and leaving a lasting impression.  But, who decides that something is a work of art?  How should certain art works be interpreted?  What exactly IS art? Many books have been written in an effort to answer this question and many discussions inevitably arise when the topic is tossed into a crowd.  You’ve probably heard the saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” and I think this simple Chinese proverb proves itself every day.

Art is a way of telling a story, sharing a point of view or expressing an idea or feeling.  Simply put, art is a form of communication that goes beyond language.  You don’t need to know how to speak Italian to appreciate the intricacies of a Leonardo Da Vinci painting, nor do you need to understand French to admire the brilliance in a Henri Matisse sculpture.  When an artist creates a painting or a sculpture, he or she is selecting from literally thousands of possible ideas or objects to create on canvas.

My day job is consulting in Digital Marketing and Strategy to a Fortune 15 telecom company.  While it is an amazing industry and I completely enjoy my work, my passion lies in the art world.

You see, I have always wanted to be a Gallerina…

Gallerina:  The waif-like girls in opaque tights who rule the art galleries in Chelsea and other art districts.  Like ballerinas, they are generally delicate-looking, coiffed, and can come off as cold at times.

Therefore, Wendistry.com is a place that focuses on “Art Appreciation for Amateurs”… featuring Dallas artists, sharing what specific aspects of a piece viewers should be appreciating when they look at particular works, and basically simplifying down and warming up what can be an intimidating topic.

Yes, this new forum will host my opinions…

Yes, I welcome disagreement and discussion…

And, yes, …
